24 Hour Challenge - Onion Days Quad

Every year Payson, Utah, celebrates Onion Days on Labor Day weekend. There is a carnival, events, and the grand parade. Typically, Utah Trikes gathers the masses and everyone rides their trikes together in the parade. This year we thought we'd add something special in the form of a custom pedal-powered car. We this on Thursday Afternoon and finished on Friday.

What do you do when you have stacks of extra KMX frames? Use them as donors! Step one was to gather the frames and strip them down.

All stripped and ready to go.

Start chopping and deburring.

Inner bracing and fit up. What is this thing going to look like?

Tack it together.

Front and rear sections are starting to take shape.

With the spacers in place there is more tacking.

With bars in place, Cody does a final eye check.

We are on a deadline guys! Time for some team welding.

In the meantime, Matt starts putting the tires on the wheels.

Bryce does some final smoothing on the cuts.

Welding the rear wheel outriggers.

Where do we want these?

Cross braces get welded in.

More teamwork!

This one is going red!

Into the oven.

Start the assembly process.

A little bit of grinding on the Ackerman compensating arms.

Ashley designs some bearing support clamps for the jackshaft.

Let the milling begin.

With the jackshaft in the middle everyone will be able to pedal or coast.

The center jackshaft supports will double as rear seat stay mounts.

Now it is time for the idlers. There is going to be some interesting chain routing.

The final weld on the jackshaft.
