I cycle for exercise and recreation. I ride recumbent trikes because they are fun!
I have cycled virtually all my life: to school or the store, and for paper routes as a boy; day trips to friends’ or relatives’ homes; multi-day short tours; and two self-contained coast-to-coast rides. Additionally, I have also participated in a variety of event rides: Cycle Oregon; Ride the Rockies; MS 150s; and Hotter n’ Hell Hundred. But all on two wheels.
In the Spring of 2023, I purchased a Catrike 700 from Utah Trikes as a retirement gift for myself. As I grew accustomed to it by riding the bike trails, I was amazed at how often young children and even teens would call out, “Cool bike” as I glided by them. Older adults generally smile and call out, “Good morning.” The trike not only puts a smile on my face, but on theirs as well.
In August 2024, at age 71, I completed the 100km course at the Hotter n’ Hell Hundred on my Catrike 700. It was hot! And it was fun!
