In this article we'll dive into some of the off road options that are currently available for trikes! So come with us as we set off on our off roading adventure!

Off Road Triking

When looking for an offroad trike there's a couple to keep in mind when looking for a good off road trike. In this next section we'll dive into some of the things to consider when looking for the perfect off roading machine for you

Tire Size

Tire size plays a big factor on making a trike an off roading machine. When starting to look for an off roading trike we recommending looking for one with fat tires. A good example of a fat tire off roading trike is the SunSeeker Fat Tad CXS

SunSeeker Fat Tad CXS

The SunSeeker Fat Tad CXS is a recumbent trike that is cool and fun to ride! The CXS sports 4 inch fat tires all the way around as well as rear coil over suspension and integrated front suspension. Overall this trike is a bunch of fun and a great option to consider when looking for an off road trike.

Another fan favorite fat tire option to consider is the ICE Full Fat.

ICE Full Fat

The ICE Full Fat is a beast when it comes to off roading! This beauty features 26 x 4 inch fat tires all the way around, sure to make easy work out of any rough terrain that stands ahead of it. That's not all though, the ICE Full Fat features rear suspension sure to make any challenging ride feeling like a ride in the park.

The ICE Full Fat was designed for Maria Leijerstam when she set out to be the first person to cycle in the South Pole. The Full Fat is an expedition tough trike, designed for record setting. It makes easy work of rough terrain, snow, and mud.

The ICE Full Fat is the perfect mix between extreme comfort and off roading fun! The Full Fat is a perfect trike to consider for your next off roading adventure.

Suspension

Another consideration to keep in mind when looking for an off road trikes is if suspension is something that is needed. Suspension can help make bumpy rides smoother. If you find yourself riding on rough terrains often a trike with suspension may be something you would want to consider when looking for an off road trike.

Suspension may not always be necessary though. If your trike has fat tires that will help to absorb bumps and shocks from the road. Overall it depends on how smooth of a ride you're looking for.

The two trikes above both feature suspension as well as fat tires. Let's look at another off road trike that features suspension.

UTCustom Catrike Fat Cat D3

The Fat Cat D3 is a fantastic off roading trike. This trike is a combination of the Catrike Dumont, fat wheels, a motor system, and Rohloff Gearing. The fat knobby tires on the D3 make it so you can easily ride over dirt, gravel, sand, grass, and snow. When run on a lower PSI you'll be able to get better traction while riding on trails. Combined with suspension of the Catrike Dumont you'll be able to cushion any large bumps that you may encounter.

Other Considerations

A few other things to consider when looking for an off road trike is tire protection, folding for easy transportation, and electric assist.

Tire Protection

Tire protection and off road trikes go together like peanut butter and jelly! Tire protection allows you to go places you haven't gone before without any worries of flats. One of our favorite sources for tire protection is Tannus Armour! Tannus Armour is one of the best ways that you can protect your trike against flats. Tannus Armour works by going inside your tire between the the tire and the tube. It's effective against 95% of common flats and keeps your tubes protected. It also features ride flat technology to ensure that you're never stranded.

Folding

A folding trike is a great start to any off road triking adventure! Folding makes it so you can easily bring your trike with you when you set off on an adventure. If you're wondering how to fold a trike check out our video on it here!

Electric Assist

Our last recommendation to consider is electric assist. Electric assist makes it so you can ride farther than you normally would be able to without getting tired.
