Why Greg Rides an Ice Adventure

-

I'm 68 years old and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) 44 years ago. Due to the progression of my MS, I have transitioned from 2 wheels to a recumbent trike with e-assist. I ride more miles on my trike per year than I ever did on 2 wheels.

With e-assist I can keep pace with my buddies and I’m back doing group rides. I ride a trike out of necessity but if they found a cure for MS and I could return to the physical capabilities I had pre-diagnosis, I would not return to riding a 2 wheel bike. I would not be willing to give up the comfort of riding a trike. No neck, hand or butt pain. I can do long rides on my trike and when done nothing hurts but my legs are tired.

I previously owned a trike without e-assist and that provided the same comfort but due to my physical limitations I was unable to keep up with my riding buddies. Riding is excellent for my physical and mental health.

In addition to the comfort I find I’m able to look around while riding where as when on two wheels I spent my time with my head down scanning the pavement in front of me. I also travel with a ready made chair. Last year I attended a concert at a nearby park. Others in the audience were sitting on blankets placed on the cold hard ground while I sat on my comfortable trike.

Greg rides an ICE Adventure with a Shimano Steps E-Assist Motor. Greg's ICE Adventure allows him to continue cycling despite having MS.
