Why Fredrick Rides the Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX Recumbent Delta Trike

-

I bought two easy threes in 2006. A blue one and a red one

I started hearing about hub motors shortly after. Front wheel drive made it easy to mount up. My first ones were direct drive. Very heavy. Throttle only. Then 250 w gear drive. Now 350 with gear drive. I still want this to be a human/electric hybrid, so the 350 is plenty of power. Battery rack is very easy to fashion from common hardware store brackets. I have 20ah battery packs which give me a good 25 to 30 mile range around here.

I live in an area with lots of dirt roads and trails. Rolling hills are not really steep. The 350 watt is wonderful with throttle and pedal assist. The throttle comes in very handy on the trike. I can definitely pull some tight donuts on it. I mostly just use the pedal assist though. I love it. The front tire is a fat knobby tire. The two rears are BMX. They are fat and have smooth tread. More kush for the tush and low rolling resistance. The system is simple and I liked leaving the original drivetrain alone. My 9 lb dachshund rode behind me for over 10 years.

Now my 8 lb Chihuahua has been riding for 4 years. They both just love it. We ride a lot around here with not much car traffic. I have ridden in Las Vegas, Colorado springs and Central Oregon. I have a little flatbed trailer for them. We had a great time.

Since 2006 the original EZ-3 has seen a name change and is now known as the Sun EZ Tri Classic. The EZ-Tri Classic is the perfect step up from a granny trike and is super stable. If you want to learn more about it and other Sun Trikes check out our video we did on the topic.
